Karabo Mbele

Karabo Mbele matriculated in 2016 from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Thereafter, she obtained her BA Fine Arts degree at the University of Pretoria whereby she developed and pursed an interest in performance and conceptual art. Throughout her academic career, Karabo was on the TuksRes  House Committee 2017/2018, and became a SpringBoard graduate. Advancements in her include: involvement in group exhibition at the Anton van Wouw Museum 2018/2019, group exhibition at the Javett Art Centre 2020, participant in the Baviaansport Correctional Facility community engagement project 2020.

 

Her work focuses on notions of cultural displacement, identity, and hybridity. With specific focus on how contact between cultures can instigate cultural displacement and/or a hybrid black identity
