Translates to rituals of cleansing: contaminated

The works consists of 2 white pillowcases with abstract embossing. The abstract subjects on the pillowcases were moulded with green bar soap, using water and the twirling of the bar soap with hands to soften it.

The aim of the work is to explore the metaphor of being influenced and contaminated – with specific reference to how the artist experiences blackness in the presence of Western and isiZulu cultures. Simultaneous contact with the cultures has resulted in displacement, hence the abstract embossing on the white (pure) pillowcases.

Kungcolisiwe introduces the amasiko wokuzihlanza series and gives reason for the cleansing rituals.
