High School Exhibition Winners Announced

The School of the Arts at the University of Pretoria held the annual High School Exhibition 2021 to help encourage participation in the arts from early on and to promote our up and coming talents. Partnering with 26 schools nationwide this year, the exhibition includes 78 artworks in an online exhibition (click here) as well as on our Fine Arts Instagram page (@upfinearts).


Each school was allowed to submit 3 artworks which are exhibited online and thereafter moved through to the final round where judges selected the top three artworks overall. The judging panel for 2021 included; Diane Victor (renowned practicing artist and printmaking lecturer) and Puleng Plessie (Curator of Education Mediation at the Javett-UP). The winners are:


FIRST PRIZE: Michael Booysen, Grade 12, Penryn College (Nelspruit)




Silence is Golden / DEFINITION, 2021, Pen and embroidery on Fabriano / Bronze.



SECOND PRIZE: Zuande Niemand, Grade 12, Hoerskool Outeniqua (George)

THIRD PRIZE: Bella du Toit, Grade 12, Jack Meyer Art Centre (Paarl)

Prizes will be awarded to the winners as well as their respective schools.

Important dates:

•       Online exhibition will be launched on 4 October 2021 and run until 30 November 2021

•       Instagram launch will take place on 11 October 2021 and will run until 29 October 2021

 

 Prizes:

•       First place receives a voucher to the value of R2000 for the school and the learner respectively

•       Second place receives a voucher to the value of R1500 for the school and the learner respectively

•       Third place receives a voucher to the value of R1000 for the school and the learner respectively
