Roy Haug is a Fourth Year Fine
Arts student at the University of Pretoria, born and raised in Pretoria. He matriculated in
2015 from Pretoria Boys High School with distinctions in Art and Engineering
Graphic Design. He began studying at the University of Pretoria in 2016 in BA
General where he gained membership to the Golden Key International Honours
Society. The following year he transferred to BA Fine Arts and has continued to
study therein since.
Roy considers himself a Sculptor
and Illustrator. His recent body of work created for his final year includes
making playful interactive art objects and wearable clothes or
devices related to COVID-19 restrictions. He finds play to be a powerful tool in
the artmaking process acting as a well of pure expression and creativity. He
considers the artmaking process as a form of a game to play, where the player is an
artist, and the act of playing is the making of art.
Roy has been part of several
exhibitions, most recent of which include the Labyrinth Project exhibition at
Ellis House which ran from December 2019 till January 2020, Turbine Art Fair
2019 (work presented through the Millennium Gallery) and Good On Paper - Micro Art Fair Aug 2019.
