The work is a simplified representation fo an existing system on a smaller scale in order to assist future calculations and predictions. 

The man in the middle is a reflection of the current state of the land of the artist's birthplace, namely Zimbabwe. 

It speaks of dictatorship, where the man in the middle undoubtedly benefits from his position but by necessity he finds himself forever surrounded by fear and violence.
