Sickland from Outland series

This image is an example to show where his staged photographs began. This image still has a documentative feeling to it, but it also seems a bit like the artist told the child and the man how to act. One can see that Ballen created a certain theatrical performance of the mind. When looking at the man laying down the viewer can be pulled into the state of the human mind and understand it better when the viewer looks at the juxtapositioned figure behind it.
