Instinctive Journey

Born 26 September 1990, Barry van der Westhuizen has been living in Pretoria since he was born. He completed his BA FA at the University of Pretoria (2013) and later completed his MTech FA degree at The University of Johannesburg. He continued to work in several sectors of the artworld where he has assisted several artists with their installations, setup and productions. Currently he is organizing and working with DSW (Dionysus sculpture works) to establish a printmaking studio based in Pretoria called, Curious Little Press, a DSW print studio.

Being a traditional printmaker at heart but also an enthusiast of the experimental side of printmaking, Barry’s approach to printmaking is that of an experimental nature, where he constantly hypothesises the process and then produces the work which forms part of his thought process and work. He believes that printmaking, although a step by step process, can be tweaked and altered to achieve a certain goal. His greatest belief is that there are a hundred ways a print can exist, the only limit is that of one's imagination.
