In this artwork, the concept of drawing exists as a sculptural component through the use of barbed wire as a drawing and mark-making tool. The black wire spirals downwards, dripping and lacerating towards the ground. The celebratory experience of champagne consumption here is superimposed by the harsh materiality of the blackened wire.
The pyramidal shape of the painted glass goblets also echoes the psychological proposition of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow used the terms "physiological", "safety", "belonging and love", "social needs" or "esteem", and "self-actualization" to describe the pattern through which human motivations generally fluctuate.
