Circadian is defined as a recurring process on
a 24-hour cycle. Using the process of pinhole photography this series of artworks
document brief moments of life during lockdown, during the global pandemic of
Covid-19. Because of lockdown and having no access to studios and limited
availability to chemicals like developer and fixer, these pinhole photographs
were developed using household substances. As a developer; vitamin-C powder, dish
washing soap and coffee were used. As a fixer; vinegar and water were used and
lastly, as a stopper; a light salt bath was used.
These six photographs represent certain spaces within
my home which I saw every day and participated in daily routines like hanging
up the washing, cleaning the pool, buying illegal cigarettes and tidying the
rooms of the house. By using household cleaning agents as developers and fixers,
it emphasizes on the theme of routine, as all the substances used to develop
these photographs were also used in the daily routines that were set out during
lockdown.
