This artwork shows historically important miles stones for women in South Africa. In 1887, the first women applied to UCT, and this is represented by a graduation cap. In 1930, women were given the right to vote, and this is represented by a suffragette ribbon. In 1933, the first woman was elected to parliament, and she represents the lower house of parliament, this is represented by the symbol for the House of Assembly. In 1987, the first woman becomes a judge in the constitutional court of South Africa, and this is represented by the robe that she wears.
