This artwork consists of thirty
small cyanotype prints and an enlarged print of a cyanotype. 25 Days documents
my daily life over a period of twenty five days, specifically in the month of
June 2020. Each small disk represents one day of the month which consists of
several activities I have completed during the day represented by symbolic
codes.
This artwork has been constructed on
a 1200 sheet of 180gsm paper with each disk representing one day, reading from
left to right, like a monthly calendar. Each disk is constructed to show
mundane activities, but I have documented this through my own visual code developed
for certain activities I do every day. The rows have been divided into five
disks representing one week which then becomes a visual structure of symbolic
lines.
Each disk has very similar lines,
some have the same pattern, but each disk varies in terms of composition and
space. The way in which I have created these disks are not planned, it goes
according to what I feel and experience during the specific day therefore some
disks are busier than others.
This reason behind the layout of
this artwork which seems to be quite aesthetically pleasing is my obsession
with planning and organizing. Writing lists, jotting down the things I need to
do have always been very meticulous in my life, therefore by making this
artwork ‘aesthetically pleasing’ I am emphasizing the need to document the
complexities of my day in such a way that is simple and tidy only to make it
seem as if the human life is less complex than it seems.
