This artwork consists of two photographic
prints. 10 Minutes and 10 Days is a combination of ten pictures of 10 till
slips from various shopping centers and grocery stores. These till slips were
collected in the first week of the South African lockdown level one. A time
were individuals were scared to visit common places like a grocery store and a
clothing store. This artwork represents how the common routines of individual’s
changed in the year of 2020, a time that defined by change and transformation.
The two till slips presented next to each other are the same image, one is in
the positive form and the other one is in the negative form. The reason for presenting
the artworks in this manner, is that during the routine of shopping I felt two different
emotions. One of excitement because I got to leave the house, represented by
the positive print and one of absolute fear of catching the virus as I have a
chronic illness, this is represented by the negative form.
