Simoné Meyer

Simoné Meyer is a Fourth Year Fine Art student at the University of Pretoria, born and raised in the Vaal Triangle. She considers herself a conceptual mixed-media sculptor and fine art photographer based in the Gauteng area. She has been a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society since 2017 and received a Hillensburg Trust Bursary for the years 2017-2020.

As an individual Simoné is no stranger to the effects and realities of anxiety, distress, and fear. As an artist, she started exploring these emotions and feelings through the mode of Wearable sculpture, performance, and the photographic/videographic documentation thereof, specifically concerning the Coronavirus outbreak.

The process of ideation, creation, performance/wear, and documentation moves the artist into realms of reflection and acceptance. Simoné’s work is concerned with everyday life and mundane experiences. The humor and absurdity of the artist’s work act as a  vehicle to address important subject matter related to the importance of the individual, choice, and fragility.
